1. Greek and Roman Mythology. a hero, son of Zeus and Alcmene, famous for his great strength that made him able to perform twelve extraordinary labors imposed on him by the King of Argos, as a result of Hera's hatred of him; Alcides.
2. Also, hercules. a person of great strength, courage, or size.
3. a northern constellation near Lyra. Also, Heracles, Herakles.
